Funding the Harbor Springs Library
The Harbor Springs Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors. It is uniquely funded by community donations, grants, and rental income rather than city, state, or federal tax dollars.
The board actively fundraises for the following:
Annual Operations
Our annual appeal and various fundraisers support our annual operating expenses that cover purchasing new materials, heating and cooling our building, updating technology, and paying our staff.

Building Fund
The Harbor Springs Library Board of Directors is committed to preserving the 114-year-old library building, which serves as a visual anchor on Main Street in downtown Harbor Springs, and is actively restoring the building to maintain its historic relevance.

Endowment Fund
In order to ensure the historic Harbor Springs Library building is properly maintained and can serve our community in perpetuity, a permanent endowment was established at the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation in 2015. Annual earnings from the endowment will primarily be used for capital and building projects and may also be used to benefit future operations and programs.
